Verdict: With a worldwide gross of ₹51.43 Cr, Meiyazhagan is nearing recovery but still falls short of being a definitive commercial success. Having said that, though this one hasn't turned into a blockbuster, its compelling emotional narrative and great performances are keeping it in cinemas for longer.
Story and Cast
Meiyazhagan is a rural movie that deals with the subjects of family and human bonds. The film deals with the complex, beautiful bond among family members and the sacrifice involved in that. Emotionally, it's a simple but depth-carrying movie that's made the movie a hit.
Cast
Karthi - The lead hero of the movie, he brings out so much depth into his character with his brilliant performance.
Arvind Swamy gives an equally impactful performance in a meaty role.

OTT Release
Despite its good response at the box office, Meiyazhagan had a tough time retaining its screens due to heavy competition from other Tamil releases. But the film is now preparing for an OTT release. The film will be streaming on Netflix from October 27, 2024. Along with the Tamil and Telugu versions, Meiyazhagan will also be available in Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi dubbed versions, reaching out to a larger audience.
Initially, the film came with the theatrical runtime at 2 hours and 57 minutes but after having a week or so in cinemas, 18 minutes have been shaved off. That is however, what viewers will experience at OTT, now set at 2 hours and 38 minutes runtime.
While Meiyazhagan certainly is not a hit at the box office, there has been moderate success it has gained in terms of good emotional storytelling and some lead cast performances. Its theater run has proven that a meaningful, heartful cinematic experience is still desired from the audience. Meiyazhagan, released on OTT, is also going to find new appreciation and continue to be a monetary success for its makers from the digital space.
