Review:

Story of the Film : Mr. and Mrs. Mahi' is the story of Mahendra Agarwal (Rajkummar Rao) and Mahima Agarwal (Janhvi Kapoor). They share a lot in common, from their name "Mahi" to their undying passion for cricket. Mahendra wanted to become a cricketer since childhood, but under the pressure of his father (Kumud Mishra), he couldn't pursue it seriously. Eventually, he had to work in a shop, leading a life devoid of respect, with an obsession to become a star somehow. On the other hand, Mahima also wanted to be a cricketer since her childhood, but she became a doctor due to her father's pressure. Now, she finds happiness only in watching cricket. How these two different yet similar individuals get married and how their inner cricketer awakens to rain boundaries and sixes on the field, you will find out when you watch the film.

The Film is Full of Emotions

If 'Mr. and Mrs. Mahi' is not categorized as a sports-drama but just as a drama, it would be more apt. There isn't an emotion left out in this film. Romance, fights, jealousy, anger, tears, betrayal, inspiration, celebration – the makers have used every emotion to the fullest. Whether it’s the father disowning his son in a moment and turning him into a salesman or the son considering himself the best cricketer only to feel defeated, and then using his wife as a means to achieve his own ends. And the wife, despite having faith in her own game, leaves everything to her husband. The film constantly wrestles with emotional upheavals.

What you won't see much is the game of cricket, which might be the reason you consider going to the theatre. That's why we said it would be better if the film was called a drama. The film doesn't surprise you anywhere, but the good thing is it doesn’t deviate from its track. You won't need to use much brainpower to watch Mr. and Mrs. Mahi, but you will definitely enjoy it with your family. However, if you are a highly sensitive person, do keep a handkerchief handy.

 Acting

Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao have done a good job. Rajkummar seems very composed, but when he cries, he will remind you of Kabir Sagar from the film 'Ludo'. Janhvi, who is improving with each film, looks and delivers her dialogues reminiscent of the film 'Bawaal'. Kumud Mishra leaves a lasting impression with his performance. Fitting perfectly into his role, you won’t even realize when Kumud transforms from a grumpy father to an opportunistic top salesman. Believe me, you might curse his character saying, "What kind of a father is he?" Zarina Wahab, who plays Rajkummar Rao's mother, doesn’t have many scenes, but in a five-minute one-on-one scene with Rajkummar, she breathes life into it. Rajesh Sharma, playing the role of the cricket coach, also does a commendable job.

In Last

To the cricket enthusiasts, 'Mr. and Mrs. Mahi' has no connection with Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Mrs. Mahi has picked up the bat just to hit shots. Her playing cricket has nothing to do with the plot. Yes, she looks good while posing for the shots. The film doesn't have many songs, but the ones it has are suitable and pleasant to listen to. The picturization and screenplay are also decent. Along with our review, the film has already hit the theatres. After watching 'Mr. and Mrs. Mahi', do let us know in the comments how you liked the film.
